Aloe Dates for 2017:Gauteng: The Sunbird Aloes home nursery in Randburg will have an open day again this year – on Saturday 17 June from 09h00 to 16h00. On this day the usual wholesale minimum of 10 plants does not apply and anyone is welcome to come and see the nursery and pick out aloes for their garden. The open day is preceded by Open Week …during which you can reserve a time for your visit and thus be assured of our full attention. This facility is popular with people who prefer to avoid the crowd on Saturday. Open Week time slots are 08h00, 09h30, 11h00, 14h00 and 15h30 every day from Monday to Friday 16 June. Call Leo on 082 824 6604 to reserve your time.To give gardeners the opportunity to obtain some of the aloe cultivars that will have finished flowering by the open day, Witkoppen Wildflower Nursery will have an Early Bird Aloe Weekend on 5,6 and 7 May. They will have another (their usual) Aloe Weekend on 28, 29 and 30 Jule. This is the best time to catch the late winter flowering aloes that will not yet be in flower in time for the Sunbird Aloes open day. The good news is that we will be holding prices at last year’s levels.In Pretoria the AloeExpo at Gariep Plants is the annual showcase for Sunbird Aloes. Kotie and his team will have their grand opening on 3 June. They are aiming to have aloes in flower until the end of winter. His colourful nursery garden is a stunning sight any time from May onward.Western Cape: The Rooiklip Nursery aloe garden is Swellendam is always worth a visit. Jaap says some of the smaller cultivars are in full flower already, and this show continues all through the winter. Rooiklip always has a stunning collection of flowering cultivars at the Kirstenbosch Garden Fair, planned for some time in May. The popular Rare Plant Sale will take place on 13 October this year.Eastern Cape: Lowlands Nursery owner Sue says there are a number of sites around East London where het Sunbird Aloes plantings are due to entertain all passers-by. You can also arrange a visit to the nursery on the farm, or look for Sue at the Avalon Market near Kidds Beach every first Sunday of the month. She will always have something you have not seen before.KwaZulu-Natal: Dundulu Aloe Nursery near Eshowe has only been going for a short time but Ruthe is already planning an open day, t.b.a.
