This large, short-stemmed aloe cultivar is renowned for huge, candelabra inflorescences with some of the longest, red flowered racemes to be found on an aloe. It is really spectacular around midwinter when it is in full flower. The flower buds are not covered with bracts and start out in a horizontal porition. They gradually start drooping as the flower starts opening.
The plant has a graceful shape with green-grey leaves. They sometimes have a pinkish edge and are lined with reddish spines. The plant does not produce stem shoots, and does not readily divide its rosette. Under favourable conditions it will easily grow to extra large size.
This is an aloe for the open rockery and should be given a space worthy of its feature status. Best recorded flowering performance: 2 inflorescences with a combined total of 20 racemes.
